Stress Management Counseling & Stress Relief

Sometimes, people become overwhelmed with stress. Inadequately managed stress can lead to anxiety, withdrawal, aggression, physical illness, or poor coping skills (e.g., alcohol or drug use, self-injury, eating disorders).

People become overloaded with stress for many reasons, including

  • Moving to a new community
  • Changing jobs or school
  • Taking on too many activities
  • Having too high expectations
  • Transitions
  • Relationship issues
  • Chronic illness
  • Severe problems in the family

Sometimes, stress results from common day-to-day difficulties. Sometimes, from major life events. And sometimes, from the accumulation of many stressful life events in a small amount of time.

When stress feels disruptive, stress management counseling can be a very helpful way to both understand the underlying meaning of your stress as well as develop stress management tools and coping skills to better deal with your issues and concerns.

Together, we will employ a number of therapeutic techniques that are especially helpful for reducing stress and gaining a sense of well being, including meditation; mind-body, stress relief, and relaxation skills; assertiveness training skills; dealing with perfectionism; insomnia treatment and therapy; psychotherapy; and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive therapy, and behavior therapy.
